40:1 （大卫的诗，交与伶长）我曾耐性等候耶和华。他垂听我的呼求。
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
40:2 他从祸坑里，从淤泥中，把我拉上来，使我的脚立在磐石上，使我脚步稳当。
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
40:3 他使我口唱新歌，就是赞美我们神的话。许多人必看见而惧怕，并要倚靠耶和华。
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
40:4 那倚靠耶和华，不理会狂傲和偏向虚假之辈的，这人便为有福。
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
40:5 耶和华我的神阿，你所行的奇事，并你向我们所怀的意念甚多，不能向你陈明。若要陈明，其事不可胜数。
Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
40:6 祭物和礼物，你不喜悦。你已经开通我的耳朵。燔祭和赎罪祭，非你所要。
Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
40:7 那时我说，看哪，我来了。我的事在经卷上已经记载了。
Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
40:8 我的神阿，我乐意照你的旨意行。你的律法在我心里。
I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
40:9 我在大会中宣传公义的佳音。我必不止住我的嘴唇。耶和华阿，这是你所知道的。
I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
40:10 我未曾把你的公义藏在心里。我已陈明你的信实，和你的救恩。我在大会中未曾隐瞒你的慈爱，和诚实。
I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
40:11 耶和华阿，求你不要向我止住你的慈悲。愿你的慈爱和诚实，常常保佑我。
Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
40:12 因有无数的祸患围困我。我的罪孽追上了我，使我不能昂首。这罪孽比我的头发还多。我就心寒胆战。
For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
40:13 耶和华阿，求你开恩搭救我。耶和华阿，求你速速帮助我。
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.
40:14 愿那些寻梢我，要灭我命的，一同抱愧蒙羞。愿那些喜悦我受害的，退后受辱。
Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
40:15 愿那些对我说，阿哈，阿哈的，因羞愧而败亡。
Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.
40:16 愿一切寻求你的，因你高兴欢喜。愿那些喜爱你救恩的，常说，当尊耶和华为大。
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.
40:17 但我是困苦穷乏的，主仍顾念我。你是帮助我的，搭救我的。神阿，求你不要耽延。
But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
诗篇40参考
燔祭、赎罪祭神都不要，奉献也不要？我今天应将甚么献给神？
40:6 “祭物和礼物你不喜悦”。大卫时代的宗教仪式包括在会幕中以动物献祭。大卫说，这些行为若动机不正确便毫无意义。今天我们常常去教会作礼拜，守圣餐，或作十一奉献。但若是为著自私的缘故，就是空洞的。神并不要那些对神毫无忠诚态度的祭物和礼物。先知撒母耳告诉扫罗说：“听命胜于献祭，”（撒上15:22）。所以我们要搞清楚的是，我们要献给神的是神所喜悦的顺服和终生的委身。
当我们都如大卫一样说，我乐意照你的旨意而行时，我们的心真是这样的吗？
40:7-8 “父啊，但愿你的旨意成全。”耶稣为我们示范了对神的顺服和事奉的态度（参约4:34；5:30）。耶稣就像先知预言的那样来了，他宣扬神的公义和赦罪的好消息。希伯来书10章5至10节中，6至8节的经文是应用在耶稣身上的。
有人不敢轻易和人谈福音，但大卫却不同；你呢？你是怎样的？
40:9-10 大卫说他要将神的信实和救赎讲给周围的人听。我们在生活中若感到了神的公义的影响就不能将它藏起来，而要将神为我们所做的一切告诉别人。神的信实若改变了你的生活，你不要胆小，要向别人分享。向人推荐一位高明的医生是件很自然的事，所以同别人分享神为我们所做的事情，也是件很自然的事。
神是信实的，我相信；我是否信实？这……
40:10 我们一想到信实，就会想到家人或朋友。对我们信实的人一定是接受和爱我们的人。就是在我们不可爱的时候他们也会爱我们。无论是支持的诺言或是婚约的诺言，信实的人总会持守的。神的信实与人的信实相似，却是惟一完美无缺的信实。神的爱是绝对的，神的应许不可更改。神爱我们，就是我们经常犯罪，神也是一样地爱我们。神信守对我们作出的一切应许，即使我们向神失信了，神也信实如常。
