7:1 大流士王第四年九月，就是基斯流月初四日，耶和华的话临到撒迦利亚。
And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;
7:2 那时伯特利人已经打发沙利色和利坚米勒，并跟从他们的人，去恳求耶和华的恩，
When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,
7:3 并问万军之耶和华殿中的祭司，和先知说，我历年以来，在五月间哭泣斋戒，现在还当这样行吗。
And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
7:4 万军之耶和华的话就临到我说，
Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,
7:5 你要宣告国内的众民，和祭司，说，你们这七十年在五月，七月禁食悲哀，岂是丝毫向我禁食吗。
Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?
7:6 你们吃喝，不是为自己吃，为自己喝吗。
And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?
7:7 当耶路撒冷和四围的城邑有居民，正兴盛，南地高原有人居住的时候，耶和华藉从前的先知所宣告的话，你们不当听吗。
Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?
7:8 耶和华的话又临到撒迦利亚说，
And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,
7:9 万军之耶和华曾对你们的列祖如此说，要按至理判断，各人以慈爱怜悯弟兄。
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:
7:10 不可欺压寡妇，孤儿，寄居的，和贫穷人。谁都不可心里谋害弟兄。
And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
7:11 他们却不肯听从，扭转肩头，塞耳不听。
But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
7:12 使心硬如金钢石，不听律法，和万君之耶和华用灵藉从前的先知所说的话。故此，万君之耶和华大发烈怒。
Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.
7:13 万军之耶和华说，我曾呼唤他们，他们不听。将来他们呼求我，我也不听。
Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:
7:14 我必以旋风吹散他们到素不认识的万国中。这样，他们的地就荒凉，甚至无人来往经过。因为他们使美好之地荒凉了。
But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.
撒迦利亚书7参考
禁食与否真是很重要的吗？神说──
7章 犹大人被掳后在每年八月（公历）为耶路撒冷的陷落禁食，到大利乌在位第四年时（公元前518年），已有七十年了。这时耶路撒冷的重建已经完成，百姓就来问圣殿的祭司和先知今后要不要继续禁食。神没有直接答覆这个问题，反而告诉他们行公义、好怜悯比禁食更重要。他要求他的百姓真正地公平待人，并且怜悯软弱的人。
神不看重形式，他看的是人心。我看我心……
7:5-7 以色列人失去了爱神、与他建立良好关系的热诚。撒迦利亚告诉他们，尽管他们禁食，却非真正敬拜神，也没有真正的悔意。他们被掳以后的禁食，并没有想到神，也未追想当初导致被掳的原因。你去教会、祷告、与其他信徒相交，只是习惯，还是出于真心呢？神说没有诚意去认识他、爱他，这种敬拜的态度会使人败亡。
7:7 南地在犹大的南方。
神说话我若不听，我呼求他时他也会不听，这……
7:11-12 撒迦利亚向百姓解释，他们的祖宗硬起心来，自招神的震怒。人无论犯甚么罪，第二次再犯都会来得更自然，因为心刚硬了。不理或不听神的警告会使我们犯罪的心一次比一次刚硬。读圣经并将神的话应用在生活上，对神话语的触觉和顺服，会使我们的心软化，使我们能按照神的标准生活。
