9:1 大卫问说，扫罗家还有剩下的人没有。我要因约拿单的缘故向他施恩。
And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?
9:2 扫罗家有一个仆人，名叫洗巴，有人叫他来见大卫，王问他说，你是洗巴吗。回答说，仆人是。
And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
9:3 王说，扫罗家还有人没有。我要照神的慈爱恩待他。洗巴对王说，还有约拿单的一个儿子，是瘸腿的。
And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
9:4 王说，他在哪里。洗巴对王说，他在罗底巴，亚米利的儿子玛吉家里。
And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.
9:5 于是大卫王打发人去，从罗底巴亚米利的儿子玛吉家里召了他来。
Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.
9:6 扫罗的孙子，约拿单的儿子米非波设来见大卫，伏地叩拜。大卫说，米非波设。米非波设说，仆人在此。
Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
9:7 大卫说，你不要惧怕，我必因你父亲约拿单的缘故施恩与你，将你祖父扫罗的一切田地都归还你。你也可以常与我同席吃饭。
And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
9:8 米非波设又叩拜，说，仆人算什么，不过如死狗一般，竟蒙王这样眷顾。
And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
9:9 王召了扫罗的仆人洗巴来，对他说，我已将属扫罗和他的一切家产都赐给你主人的儿子了。
Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
9:10 你和你的众子，仆人要为你主人的儿子米非波设耕种田地，把所产的拿来供他食用。他却要常与我同席吃饭。洗巴有十五个儿子，二十个仆人。
Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
9:11 洗巴对王说，凡我主我王吩咐仆人的，仆人都必遵行。王又说，米非波设必与我同席吃饭，如王的儿子一样。
Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.
9:12 米非波设有一个小儿子，名叫米迦。凡住在洗巴家里的人都作了米非波设的仆人。
And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
9:13 于是米非波设住在耶路撒冷，常与王同席吃饭。他两腿都是瘸的。
So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.

9:1-13 在大卫时代，作君王的多欲除灭对头，以防止他们的后裔起来争夺王位。但是大卫对扫罗的孙子──约拿单的儿子米非波设大施慈爱。他的慈爱一方面出于尊重神以前所膏立的君王（参撒上24:5-6的注释）；另一面也是出于政治因素，他想将犹大与以色列统一起来（参3:13-14及3:29的注释）；不过主要的原因还是因为他曾向约拿单起誓，要恩待他的子孙（参撒上20:14-17）。
约拿单的儿子为甚么会瘸腿？
9:3 约拿单与扫罗阵亡的时候，米非波设只有五岁，致残的原因参阅4章4节。
恩典的含意本有我不配得之意，既是如此，为何不放胆坦然地来到神的施恩座前？
9:5-6 米非波设不敢来见大卫王，他没有想到大卫待他如王子。米非波设虽然害怕丧命，也可能觉得不配见王，并不表示他拒绝大卫的赏赐。同样，神宽厚地赦免我们的罪，我们也可能自愧不配，但是只要我们愿意领受，就能得到诸般赏赐。凡愿意信靠耶稣基督、领受神赏赐之人，都会受到比米非波设得到的更热切的欢迎。并不是因为我们配得，一切都是神所应许的（参弗2:8-9）。
饶恕的心乃是喜乐的良药，在我心中是否仍有不能释怀之人，叫我失去怜悯的素质？
9:7 大卫在对待米非波设一事上，显出他作领袖的泱泱大度，照著他所承诺的，向约拿单的儿子显出诚实与怜悯。他慷慨供应约拿单之子的结果，超过他以往所能获得的政治利益。你能否饶恕曾得罪你的人？你能否对不配之人慷慨？我们每次向别人施怜悯，自己的品格也随之得到提高。
