8:1 此后,大卫攻打非利士人,把他们治服,从他们手下夺取了京城的权柄(原文作母城的嚼环)。

And after this it came to pass that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Methegammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

8:2 又攻打摩押人,使他们躺卧在地上,用绳量一量,量二绳的杀了,量一绳的存留。摩押人就归服大卫,给他进贡。

And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.

8:3 琐巴王利合的儿子哈大底谢往大河去,要夺回他的国权。大卫就攻打他,

David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.

8:4 擒拿了他的马兵一千七百,步兵二万,将拉战车的马砍断蹄筋,但留下一百辆车的马。

And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.

8:5 大马士革的亚兰人来帮助琐巴王哈大底谢,大卫就杀了亚兰人二万二千。

And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

8:6 于是大卫在大马士革的亚兰地设立防营,亚兰人就归服他,给他进贡。大卫无论往哪里去,耶和华都使他得胜。

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

8:7 他夺了哈大底谢臣仆所拿的金盾牌,带到耶路撒冷。

And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8:8 大卫王又从属哈大底谢的比他和比罗他城中夺取了许多的铜。

And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

8:9 哈马王陀以听见大卫杀败哈大底谢的全军,

When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

8:10 就打发他儿子约兰去见大卫王,问他的安,为他祝福,因为他杀败了哈大底谢,原来陀以与哈大底谢常常争战。约兰带了金银铜的器皿来,

Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

8:11 大卫王将这些器皿和他治服各国所得来的金银都分别为圣,献给耶和华,

Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;

8:12 就是从亚兰,摩押,亚扪,非利士,亚玛力人所得来的,以及从琐巴王利合的儿子哈大底谢所掠之物。

Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

8:13 大卫在盐谷击杀了亚兰(或作以东,见诗篇六十篇诗题)一万八千人回来,就得了大名。

And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men.

8:14 又在以东全地设立防营,以东人就都归服大卫。大卫无论往哪里去,耶和华都使他得胜。

And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

8:15 大卫作以色列众人的王,又向众民秉公行义。

And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.

8:16 洗鲁雅的儿子约押作元帅。亚希律的儿子约沙法作史官。

And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

8:17 亚希突的儿子撒督和亚比亚他的儿子亚希米勒作祭司长。西莱雅作书记。

And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;

8:18 耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅统辖基利提人和比利提人。大卫的众子都作领袖。

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief rulers.

人生胜利的基础是在于神的应许,不在于自己力量的大小……
8:1-5 神与大卫所立的约中有这样的应许,就是众仇敌要被打败,不再欺压以色列人(7:10-11);神要助大卫打败敌对的列国,以成全他的应许。本章列出几个敌人的名字:(1)摩押人;是罗得的子孙,住在死海以东,军事上与宗教上都是以色列长期的威胁(参民25:1-3;士3:12-30;撒上14:47),大卫曾一度与他们修好。(2)琐巴王哈大底谢;大卫将他打败,追奔逐北直到幼发拉底河,成全了神对亚伯拉罕的应许──以色列人要控制那地(参创15:18)。(3)以东是以扫的后裔(参创36:1),也是以色列人的主要仇敌(参王下8:20;耶49:7-22;结25:12-14;以及创36:9的注释)。

“进贡”的含意是……
8:6 “进贡”是被征服国家对宗主国所纳的税,税款有助以色列政府的财政收入,且显明被征服的国家在以色列人的控制之下。

作人岂能面面俱圆,为甚么不先把心思放在讨神喜悦的事上?
8:15 大卫得众民喜爱(3:36),不在于他讨好人,乃因想讨神喜悦。有些人常极力赢取个人的声望,却从来不能成功。得到百姓的称赞其实并不重要,不要浪费时间与心机,只为赢得大众的赞许,要极力行当行的事,这样,神与人才会看重你。

行公义不单是君王的专责,也是神的子民的本分。我在与人相处中履行公义了吗?
8:15 大卫王朝重在“秉公行义”。公义是指以公平行使和解释律法,施行刑罚的时候以怜悯为念,尊重百姓的权益,并认识人对神所尽的本分。无怪乎所有的人都信任大卫并跟从他。大卫追求公义为甚么值得称道呢?(1)那是神的命令(申16:18-20),也是神的特性(参申32:4),神的律法就是为要建立公义的社会。(2)为全族的最大好处,人人都需要公义。公义应当成为你与人相处的准则。你待人一定要公平无欺!
