7:1 基列耶琳人就下来,将耶和华的约柜接上去,放在山上亚比拿达的家中,分派他儿子以利亚撒看守耶和华的约柜。

And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.

7:2 约柜在基列耶琳许久。过了二十年,以色列全家都倾向耶和华。

And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

7:3 撒母耳对以色列全家说,你们若一心归顺耶和华,就要把外邦的神和亚斯她录从你们中间除掉,专心归向耶和华,单单地事奉他。他必救你们脱离非利士人的手。

And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

7:4 以色列人就除掉诸巴力和亚斯她录,单单地事奉耶和华。

Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.

7:5 撒母耳说,要使以色列众人聚集在米斯巴,我好为你们祷告耶和华。

And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.

7:6 他们就聚集在米斯巴,打水浇在耶和华面前,当日禁食,说,我们得罪了耶和华。于是撒母耳在米斯巴审判以色列人。

And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

7:7 非利士人听见以色列人聚集在米斯巴,非利士的首领就上来要攻击以色列人。以色列人听见,就惧怕非利士人。

And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

7:8 以色列人对撒母耳说,愿你不住地为我们呼求耶和华我们的神,救我们脱离非利士人的手。

And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

7:9 撒母耳就把一只吃奶的羊羔献与耶和华作全牲的燔祭,为以色列人呼求耶和华。耶和华就应允他。

And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.

7:10 撒母耳正献燔祭的时候,非利士人前来要与以色列人争战。当日,耶和华大发雷声,惊乱非利士人,他们就败在以色列人面前。

And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

7:11 以色列人从米斯巴出来,追赶非利士人,击杀他们,直到伯甲的下边。

And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.

7:12 撒母耳将一块石头立在米斯巴和善的中间,给石头起名叫以便以谢,说,到如今耶和华都帮助我们。

Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

7:13 从此,非利士人就被制伏,不敢再入以色列人的境内。撒母耳作士师的时候,耶和华的手攻击非利士人。

So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

7:14 非利士人所取以色列人的城邑,从以革伦直到迦特,都归以色列人了。属这些城的四境,以色列人也从非利士人手下收回。那时以色列人与亚摩利人和好。

And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

7:15 撒母耳平生作以色列的士师。

And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

7:16 他每年巡行到伯特利,吉甲,米斯巴,在这几处审判以色列人。

And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

7:17 随后回到拉玛,因为他的家在那里。也在那里审判以色列人,且为耶和华筑了一座坛。

And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.

约柜被搬移到──
7:1 以色列人将约柜从靠近争战的地方运到基列耶琳,为了安全起见,分派以利亚撒看守。他们为甚么不将约柜运回示罗的会幕呢?因为祭司行恶所致(2:12-17),他们在以前的战役中被非利士人打败,这城也可能已被毁灭(参4:1-18;耶26:2-6),不过,会幕和其中的器物一定受到保护,因为以后的经文记载,当扫罗作王的时候,会幕立在挪伯城(撒上21:1-6),当大卫与所罗门作王的时候,却立在基遍(参代上16:39;21:29-30;代下1)。但是旧约的历史书从此再未提到示罗。撒母耳的新住处是拉玛(7:15-17;8:4),也是他的出生之地(这事亦可以证明示罗已被毁灭)。

事隔二十年以色列人才归向神,我跟神建立融洽关系需时多久?
7:2-3 以色列全族沉浸在哀愁中已二十年。约柜好像无用的木匣子,被束之高阁,似乎耶和华已撇弃了他的子民。撒母耳现在已长大成人,他唤起人民,说如果他们真正为罪忧愁,就应当付诸行动。我们很容易发牢骚,把自己的苦楚向神倾吐,却不肯照他所规定的去行动、去改变,甚至也不理会他已经给我们的劝告。你是否觉得神好像已经撇弃了你?请你检讨一下,看是不是他曾经吩咐你的事,你仍未遵行,所以不能从他得到新的引导。

甚么偶像阻止我忠心事奉神?
7:3 撒母耳劝以色列人除去他们中间的外邦神。现代的无形偶像比木头石头的假神更难察觉,却是一样的危险。凡在我们生命之中占首位、控制我们的事物,都成为我们的偶像。金钱、成就、物质、财产、名誉,或任何在我们的生命之中代替神的,都会成为偶像。惟有耶和华配受我们的敬拜事奉,我们不可以容许别的事物与他争竞。如果我们心里有“外邦神”,就应当求神帮助,把它们赶离宝座,使真神在我们心中居首位。

迦南人怎样看巴力和亚斯她录?
7:4 迦南人相信巴力是假神之首伊勒的儿子,是最重要的神。他们把巴力当作司雷雨的神,管理农业与植物。亚斯她录则是管理战争与爱的女神。(她在巴比伦与希腊人中间皆有别的名字。)她代表多产。迦南人相信,如果与巴力及亚斯她录有性关系的话(与这些偶像庙宇中的庙妓,娈童交合),就会使大地像魔幻般恢复活力,得以丰收。

在米斯巴发生过哪些重要事件?
7:5 米斯巴对以色列人特别重要,他们曾在那里聚集,发动对便雅悯支派的攻击(参士20:1);撒母耳在那里被立为首领(7:6);以色列人的第一任君王扫罗亦在那里被掣签掣出,领到人民面前(10:17及以下各节)。

“打水浇在耶和华面前”是做甚么?
7:6 打水浇在“耶和华面前”,是承认自己的罪、离弃偶像、决志单单顺服神的表示。

撒母耳能成为伟大的士师是因为……
7:6 自从以色列人进占应许之地,士师兴起以来,撒母耳是最后一位士师。关于士师的名单,请看士师记二章的图表。士师是政治兼宗教领袖,但其实神才是他们的真正领袖,士师不过是神的发言人,向人民发言,治理全地行公义。有些士师倚靠自己的判断多过倚靠神,而撒母耳忠心顺服,将自己奉献给他,所以成为以色列历史上最伟大的士师之一。(关于撒母耳作士师的资料,请参4:18的注释。)

立石以纪念神的大能;回忆以记念我主对我的恩典──
7:12 以色列人曾受非利士人侵扰,但是神拯救他们,百姓就立石纪念他大能的帮助与拯救,作为回应。我们遭遇艰难时,也可以回忆过去重大的转捩点,好帮助我们渡过眼前的困局。纪念碑等物,能帮助我们忆起神过去的胜利,使我们现在得著信心与力量。

这些亚摩利人是──
7:14 在约书亚时代,亚摩利人散布在约旦河东西两岸的山地,部族强大,聚众占领著约旦河以东及死海对面之地。但是按照这一节的上下文来看,亚摩利人泛指迦南地所有非以色列居民。
